Homes for Wells:

Homes for Wells was formed over 10 years ago as a voice for local workers in Wells-next-the-Sea, who were finding it hard to keep up with a housing market that was kept buoyant by tourists and second-home owners flocking to their idyllic seaside town. Now a Registered Provider, Homes for Wells has received national recognition for its early contribution to community led housing sector – not to mention                                                                                   its innovative housing projects.

Rogers Road, Swaffham Prior CLT

The residents of Swaffham Prior were hit hard by inflated house prices emanating from the city of Cambridge. The impetus for a CLT came in the form of a Housing Need Survey conducted in Swaffham Prior in 2011, which indicated that a high proportion of families would be in need of affordable housing alternatives if they wished to remain in the village. Through a partnership with CLT East, a housing association and housing developer, Swaffham Prior CLT became the proud owner of 8 affordable homes in 2016 which are now fully let and will be retained by the community for generations to come.

Manor Farm, Stretham and Wilburton CLT

Manor Farm is the most recent project of the case studies. The affordable houses on the scheme are owned by the communities of both Stretham and Wilburton, who came together to form a CLT in an exciting collaboration between the villages. Like Swaffham Prior, the residents of both Stretham and Wilburton felt that high Cambridgeshire house prices were beginning to damage the fabric of their communities by forcing those with strong local connections to have to move away. Work started on site at Manor Farm in 2014, and SWCLT are currently celebrating taking ownership of the first six out of 23 affordable homes - complete with very happy tenants!
